A Caboose or Brake Van is a vehicle on the end of a train which provided braking and a place for the guard to watch the train from. As radio technology improved in the late 20th century, these vehicles became obsolete.
Several of my GRFs include caboose vehicles, and freight trains may require a caboose before they will be allowed to leave the depot.

Caboose required
A caboose vehicle is required in the following circumstances:
- The train's most common cargo type is not Passengers
- The train carries cargo classes other than Passengers, Mail and Valuables
- The train is more than 5 cars long
- The train is not owned by an AI company
- The year is before 1975
UKRS2
Caboose Vehicles
The following vehicles are cabooses in UKRS:
- 6 Wheel Mail Coach
- 10t Brake Van
- 20t Brake Van
Caboose required

- The train carries cargo classes other than Passengers, Mail and Valuables
- The train is more than 5 cars long
- The train is not owned by an AI company
