The world's best known twin-turboprop bushplane, the Twin Otter has seen extensive use over 50 years in Alaska, Africa, Australia, Antarctica, and other remote parts of the world starting with A. Its most significant impact was in Norway, where Twin Otters were used extensively in connecting smaller towns and settlements.

In 2006 Viking Air acquired the type certificates for the Twin Otter from Bombardier, and have announced plans to put the aircraft back into production in Canada and possibly in Indonesia.
