The Yak-40 "Codling", to give it its NATO designation, was the world's first regional jet, predating the [[Embraer ERJ 145|modern concept]] by three decades.  Over a thousand of these diminutive jet aircraft were produced for Aeroflot and other Eastern Bloc militaries and governments.
