The small, speedy and efficient DC-9 was one of the longest-produced jetliners of all time, with a production run spanning 41 years.

During its production life the DC-9 has undergone massive innovation. It started as a 90 seater in the sixties and got in later variants developed with up to 173 seats and got more efficient engines which have kept it popular and widely used. Nearly 2500 DC-9 was built in total.

The picture shows a DC-9-82 (from 1983 designated MD82) introduced in 1982.

The wide-body, 4 engine, double-deck, Airbus A380 is the world's biggest passenger plane. Its size allow from 550 (in three class configuration) and up to 853 seats (in all economy class configuration). The A380 is a direct competitor to Boeings monopole on the high-capacity airliner market. The idea of Airbus A380 was arisen by a group of Airbus engineers led by Jean Roeder already in 1988. At that time McDonnell Douglas had an idea about a similar aircraft but it was never realized.

With A380, Airbus now offers aircrafts in all size.

The production of the DC10 ended in 1988 with 386 built, but untill year 2000 a developed version of the DC10, named MD11, was produced in 200 specimen. The end of the MD11 production was caused by the fusion of Boeing and McDonnell Douglas. The last MD11 was delivered for Lufthansa Cargo.
The Douglas DC-10 was build as a reply to the Lockheed Martins L1011 Tristar. Originally DC10 was designed with two engines only, but the 3. one was added (at the tail) when the launch costumer American Airlines wanted the DC10 to be able to takeoff from short runways.

The production of the DC10 ended in 1988 with 386 built, but untill year 2000 a developed version of the DC10, named MD11, was produced in 200 specimen. The end of the production was caused by the fusion of Boeing og McDonnell Douglas. The last MD11 was delivered for Lufthansa Cargo.

DC10 is also built as an air to air tanker aircraft, named KC-10 Extender.
A300 was the first wide-bodied twin-engine aircraft and also the first aircraft-model launched by Airbus Industrie in the early 1970's. The 300-seats decreased a bit during the desiging process of the aircraft. Production ended in 1997 after 561 aircraft.
A300 was also build as a Super Transporter variant, named Airbus A300-600ST Beluga introduced in 1995. The Beluga variant is aswell avalable in av8 from 1995.
Production of the Airbus 320 was started after the success of the widebody Airbus A300. The A320 was is a narrowbody mid-range aircraft, built to compete with the Boeing 727 and 737.

The Airbus 320 was the first passenger plane to use "fly-by-wire" and "glass cockpit" technologies, with electronics replacing the bulkier and more complex control systems found in older aircraft.
A development of the Fokker 28 with longer fuselage, Rolls-Royce Tay turbofan engines and “glass cockpit”, the low operating cost of this 100-seater short-range aircraft made the Dutch-built Fokker 100 a big hit in the late 1980s. Production ended in 1997 after 283 aircraft, as newer Regional Jets squeezed Fokker out of the market.
The four small turbofans are also very quiet, which makes it optimal for noise restricted city airports, e.g. London City Airport.
The French-built Sud Aviation (later Aérospatiale) SE-210 Caravelle was the first short-range jet airliner. Its rear mounted engines provided improved wing perfomance and lower cabin noise than its contemporaries. 282 Caravelles were built, and used widely by European Airlines for over 3 decades.
The largest twin-engined jet in the world, the Boeing 777 was introduced as a cheaper alternative to four-engined aircraft on long-haul routes.
The 777 made its first flight during the development of Transport Tycoon, and thus is significant as being the last real-world vehicle introduced in both the original TT and TTDX.
As the only 100 seater, short-range aircraft, combined with low operating cost the Fokker 100 became a success at its introduction in the late 1980’s. The Fokker 100 was a development of the Fokker 28 with longer fuselage, Rolls-Royce Tay turbofan engines and “glass cockpit”. The production ended in 1997 with 283 aircrafts built, caused by increased competition at the market for RJ's.
