The small, speedy and efficient DC-9 was one of the longest-produced jetliners of all time, with a production run spanning 41 years.

The design of the DC-9 was completely new, with T-tail and rear fuselage mounted engines. The aircraft was purpose-built for short to medium routes, and to serve smaller airports, often poor equipped and with short runways which bigger aircrafts like [[Boeing 707]] couldn’t serve. This made the DC-9 popular and widely used. There was build nearly 2500 DC-9 in more than 11 different variants.

There has been made a special version of DC-9 for military purposes, named McDonnell Douglas C-9.

The production of the DC10 ended in 1988 with 386 built, but untill year 2000 a developed version of the DC10, named MD11, was produced in 200 specimen. The end of the MD11 production was caused by the fusion of Boeing and McDonnell Douglas. The last MD11 was delivered for Lufthansa Cargo.

DC10 is also built as an air to air refueling tanker, named KC-10 Extender.

The Douglas DC-10 was build as a reply to the Lockheed Martins L1011 Tristar. Originally DC10 was designed with two engines only, but the 3. one was added (at the tail) when the launch costumer American Airlines wanted the DC10 to be able to takeoff from short runways.

The production of the DC10 ended in 1988 with 386 built, but untill year 2000 a developed version of the DC10, named MD11, was produced in 200 specimen. The end of the production was caused by the fusion of Boeing og McDonnell Douglas. The last MD11 was delivered for Lufthansa Cargo.

DC10 is also built as an air to air tanker named the KC-10 Extender.

The Boeing 707 was Boeings first succesful civil jet-aircraft and the first Boeing aircraft with the designations "7x7". The pioneer for the 707 was a prototype named 367-80, built to prove the advantages of passenger jets. 
Boeing 707 became the standard long-range aircraft in almost all worlds major airlines. Production ran from 1958 to 1979 with 1010 aircraft built.

A300 was the first wide-bodied twin-engine aircraft and also the first aircraft-model launched by Airbus Industrie in the early 1970's. A300 was the result of a number of european companies co-operation with the target: a 300 seater "flying bus". The 300-seats decreased a bit during the desiging process of the aircraft. Production ended in 1997 after 561 aircraft.

A300 was also build as a Super Transporter variant, named Airbus A300-600ST Beluga introduced in 1995. The Beluga variant is aswell avalable in [[av8]] from 1995.

It was the first 4-engine Airbus aircraft and therefore also the first Airbus which was able to fly longhaul over-sea routes. At the launch of the A340, international rules (ETOPS) prohibited twin-engine aircrafts from flying such routes.
